When it comes to Yoga Nidra, comfort isn’t a luxury — it’s the very foundation of the practice. Unlike more active forms of yoga, Yoga Nidra invites you into stillness — a kind of sacred softening where the body can finally exhale.
But here’s the quiet truth: your nervous system won’t release unless it feels deeply safe and supported. That’s why your Yoga Nidra nest — your cocoon of blankets, pillows, and props — matters so much. The more your body is lovingly held, the more your mind can drift into surrender.
Remember that your nest is personal and ever-changing.
Some days you may crave the simplicity of a supported Shavasana. Other days, a side-lying position feels like medicine. Perhaps tomorrow calls for a reclined Goddess, heart open to the sky. Let your setup shift with your mood, your energy, your emotions, your season. There is no right way — only what feels like a yes today.
PROPS
To help you feel fully supported during our time together, please gather a few items. Traditional yoga props are wonderful, but household alternatives work just as well. The intention is simple: create a soft, steady nest so your body knows it can let go.
One bolster (or a few firm pillows / a rolled-up blanket)
Two yoga blocks (or folded blankets / sturdy books)
At least two blankets — and truly, the more the better
An eye cover (eye pillow, scarf, towel — anything soft enough to dim the world)
Any cozy extras — shawl, socks, extra pillows — whatever says you are held
If possible, choose a quiet space where distractions can fall away. Set aside your phone. Clear just enough clutter to create a sense of calm spaciousness.
In the video below (click link to view) I’ll guide you through two of my favorite setups — a simple supported Shavasana and a reclined Goddess pose. Try them both. Then let your body choose its favorite way to rest.
